Teddy Wilf’s @ The Westgate

Teddy Wilf’s @ The Westgate is a small, friendly, purpose built facility at The Westgate Leisure Centre, Chichester. We have two separate rooms for our children – one for those under two years of age and one for those children two years of age and above and a secure, all weather garden.

Under 2’s Room

Our Under 2’s Room allows us to care for up to six children aged 3 months – 24 months. The room features a carpeted play area, a large horseshoe table for sociable mealtimes, a designated sleep area for those children needing a rest, full nappy changing facilities and a small kitchenette for preparing children’s meals and snacks.

We offer lots of activities to our under 2’s including musical instruments, playdough, painting, drawing and chalking, ice play and lots of sensory activities such as cornflour, jelly, spaghetti and crazy foam. In other words, all of the things you probably hate doing at home! We try and take the under 2’s out at least once a week, either for a trip to the Library, a walk down the Canal footpath or a trip to the train or bus station. We offer lots of different resources within the room which the children can access independently, and we rotate the toys regularly to ensure there are always new and exciting things to play with. Our under two’s have their own garden which is sectioned off from the older children. They have access to sand and water play, as well as small rockers, balls and bean bags, baby buggies and push along toys and a paddling pool during the warmer weather.

We have two experienced full time Early Years Practitioners based in the room who are with the children all day. We pride ourselves on the fact we do not have shift changes which ensures that children have the continuity of care throughout the day. It also means that as a Parent you will always drop off to and collect from the same practitioners and don’t have to remember too many names!

Pre-School Room

Our Pre-School Room allows us to care for up to twenty-one nursery children aged 2 – 4 years old. The room features a carpeted reading, construction and small world area, a child sized kitchen and horseshoe table for sociable snack times, a creative area including a messy play tray, an investigation area for lots of mathematical and science based learning and most importantly a role play area. The room also benefits from an adjoining bathroom with child sized toilets and hand wash basins, as well as nappy changing facilities.

We are very lucky have three full time Early Years Practitioners, one full time Trainee Practitioner and one full time Early Years Apprentice who support the children in our Pre-School Room. They are all involved with the day to day running of the room and spend their time having lots of fun with the children whilst making observations of the children, assessing their development, planning for their needs and next steps and supporting them where necessary.

Ofsted

Teddy Wilf’s @ The Westgate’s last Ofsted was in December 2018 and we were awarded an overall ‘Good’ rating with Outstanding aspects.

The Inspector praised our excellent relationships with Parents, the relationships between our Practitioners and their children and children’s independence within the Nursery. The inspector wrote:

“Children are happy and very well settled in the setting. They explore confidently and engage quickly in the interesting activities and resources that staff provide.” Ofsted Report, December 2018
